For every new project I start, I like to try to incorporate at least one new technology I've never used before. In this case I built my back end off of Convex. It is a new SaaS company that makes it easier to write and design your backend / database schemas.
Most of the challenges I've faced while building this app was learning how Convex works and how I can connect different parts of my application to it. Since they launched very recently and are not that well known, I couldn't rely on chat GPT anymore and had to rely solely on the documentation they provided.
It was actually a good experience for me because it gave me confidence that I could still overcome difficult challenges without relying on chat GPT. I also loved how fast and quickly you can develop your application using it as opposed to writing an entire node express backend.
Some other challenges I faced in this project includes dealing with audio and trying to figure out the formats I need them in, in order for the google TTS api to recognize it and also to get the audio to play without having to saving the audio file in anyway. I also generally had a hard time with useEffects and the dependencies since there were so many different parts that depended on the state of other parts which caused a lot of complexity.
But overall I learned so much from this and really enjoyed working on this project.
This project was initially started as a hackathon project which I continued to work on and finished the MVP version of the application after it ended. I ended up winning in the honorable mentions category!
